Bart Scalise Obituary

Bart A. Scalise, 75, of Utica, passed away with loving family by his side, Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital.

Bart was born in Utica, June 4, 1948, a son of the late Anthony “Tony” Sr. and Louise Margaret (Florenze) Scalise. He was educated in local schools and a 1966 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. He was drafted into the US Army and proudly served during the Vietnam War.

Following his service to our country, Bart worked at Remington Arms and had also been employed, as a custodian, for the Utica City School District at UFA. He went on to a career at the Utica Post Office and worked there for over 20 years. After his retirement, he continued working in maintenance at the Masonic Care Community. He later spent time volunteering for the Abraham House and the Masonic Home, where you could find him playing cards with the residents, on some Wednesday afternoons.

On May 7, 1977, Bart was joined in marriage to the former Frances Aiello. Bart and Frances enjoyed a very close and loving marriage of over 46 years, devoting themselves to raising their family.

A well known local character, Bart had a great sense of humor and loved joking with people. Following the death of his dad, he acquired the mantle of patriarch of the family, a role he took very seriously. He enjoyed his home, but, had a daily routine of coffee and breakfast at the Marrlogg Restaurant with his many friends; and shopping daily at Hannafords, where he knew everyone and they knew him.

Bart was very proud of being a Veteran, of his family, and especially proud of being a grandfather. He was a huge Yankees and NY Giants fan and always enjoyed watching the Cowboys lose. His untimely death leaves a huge void that will be hard to fill.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances; son, Richard Scalise and his fiancé, Kristy Olney; daughter, Gina Scalise; his adored grandson, Samuel “Sam” Scalise and Sam’s mother, Adrienne Albin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Congetta “Anne” Scalise, Rosalie and Tony Pezzulo, Virginia and Vinny Colucci, and Joanne Aiello; and also many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony “Tony” Scalise Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a prayer service with Military Honors on Wednesday, February 28, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. James Cesta, officiating. There will be a visitation prior to the service, on Wednesday, 10 to 11:30 a.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
