Mrs. Carol Ann (Cuda) Polizzi, 54, passed away with her loving family by her side on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at New York Presbyterian/Columbia Hospital in New York City following complications due to a long illness.
Carol Ann was born in Utica on October 4, 1957, a daughter of Donald G. and Theresa (Papadopoli) Cuda. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School. Following graduation, Carol Ann attended MVCC and graduated with an Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. She went on to earn degrees in Behavioral Science (SUNY Utica/Rome, 1983), Business and Public Management (SUNY Utica/Rome, 1990) and a Master of Science in Management and Urban Policy with a major in Human Resources (New School University, 1995). She was employed with the Utica Postal Service for over thirty years. On June 3, 1978, Carol was joined in marriage to Thomas S. Carol Ann was a vibrant and caring woman who touched the lives of everyone around her. She loved to laugh and was deeply passionate about family and family traditions. She loved cooking, quilting, going to the theater and baking mountains of holiday cookies. She was generous with those around her and would do anything for a friend. But above all, she loved her family and spoiling her only grandchild.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Tom; and their two beloved children and their families, Juliette and John Wilk and their son, Julian, of Oakland CA, and Marc-Anthony and Cynthia Polizzi, of Kansas City, MO; her mother, Theresa Cuda; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary Cuda, Mark and Karen Cuda, Donald and Lorry Cuda, and Vincent and Jamie Cuda; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juliette and Robert Thomas and Michele and Agustin Martinez; her father-in-law, Michael Polizzi, Sr.; her brother-in-law, Michael Polizzi, Jr.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Anthony “Mitch” Mitchell; Godparents, Carol and Dr. Bart Basi; and five Godchildren, Miranda Cuda, Thomas J. Cuda, Abarie Oken, Jeremy Oken and Elizabeth Cucchiara. Carol is survived by a very large and loving extended family throughout the country and Canada including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially acknowledging special niece, Myriah Martinez.
She was predeceased by her father, Donald G. Cuda, Sr.; and her grandparents, Carl and Giulietta Papadopoli.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 11a.m. from St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish with interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Dear Tom , Bob and I just got home from our 3 week trip in Australia and saw your news about Carol. We knew from your note a week or two ago that she was in the ICU but just found out from your note on FB that she had passed away.......we were shocked to read that and we are so so sorry for your loss (and Juliette and Marc Anthony and all your family). I know we haven't seen each other in so many years but have very fond and fun memories of times spent together during some summers and then keeping up with you both on FB. No words can ease your pain right now I know...... just try to keep in mind that she is at peace and not in any pain anymore. Although she won't be with you the way you would like her to be from now on..always know she will always be very close in your heart and I'm sure she will aways be looking over your shoulder! We will call and say hello to you soon when things have calmed down a bit for you. There is a saying I heard quoted many years ago and it has helped me get though some tough times in my life....."some things you never really get over.....you just learn to live with it". Boy that is so the truth. Take care of your self Tom and God's blessing on you and the family only!

Carol surely passed at a young age. She will surely be missed by numerous people. I'm thankful to have known her. I'm also grateful for the time the Lord allowed us to have her. While, I'm sad she had to leave this earth early...we were very blessed to have her this long. I'm glad she was able to spoil her grandson Julian for as long as she was able. I could tell by the pictures how much joy she had spending time with him.
May God bless you all through these tough times. May you open your hearts to Him and be thankful for the time God gave us with Carol.

When we were teenagers and you and Carol met, it was obvious at the time that you both would spend your lives together. Sometimes the right thing does happen. It can't be explained when someone leaves way before we think they should. You were both a large part of my growing up and even though I haven't been there, you have always been here with me. May the pain subside and the memories remain strong.

Mrs. Polizzi was a very special person and touched my life in a way I cannot describe in words. Her smile would light up a room and her laugh filled it with such a joyful sound. She was a gift from God and I thank Him for letting me grow up with her in my life. Mr. Polizzi, Juliette, Marc-Anthony, and your families are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Tom...we fondly remember the first time that we met you & Carol. We had just bought our house on Hartford Place (1980/1981)and were still fixing it up before moving in and who should appear, knocking at our door one night but you, Carol & a very small Juliette! You were the first people to welcome us to the neighborhood and that was very much appreciated. Our hearts go out to you and your family!

Tom, Juliette, Marc Anthony & family, "What moves through us all is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch,we may not understand why Carol Ann left this earth so soon or why she left before we were ready to say GoodBye, but little by little,as painful as it is, you'll with loved ones help begin to remember not just that she died, but that she Lived and LOVED! And that her life gave us memories too Beautiful to Forget!" Tom, let us never forget that besides her regular cooking, she and you made amazing Fish and Chips!!!! Love Always, Donna, Michael Donald & Barry

"A death has occured, and everything is changed by this event. We are painfully aware that life can never be the same again, that yesterday is over, that a relationship, once rich, has ended.
But there is another way to look upon this truth.
If life went on the same without the presence of Carol, we could only conclude that her life made no contributions, filled no space, meant nothing.
The fact that Carol left behind a place that cannot be filled is a high tribute to her. Life can be the same after a trinket has been lost, but never after the loss of a treasure."

to tom-juliette-marc anthony-mrs. cuda-gary-mark-donald-vinnie-julie & michelle : carol will always be alive in my heart. i had my own private memorial for carol tonight, outside in the woods, in my yard looking at the FL night sky full of stars. i was holding a candle in one hand & in the other my i-phone was playing "seasons in the sun". right at midnight i felt steve's hand on my shoulder. i was so focused i didn't feel him approach & it was pitch black except for my candle & ph. just then i felt the strangest feeling & both steve & i saw a shooting star over venus. that was the only shooting star i saw all night & i was out there for 45 minutes, looking at the stars. At the same time my ph rang & abarie called me to see where i was. she was in her room & had the strangest feeling & it scared her. abarie said she never felt like that before & she doesn't scare easy. the star was shooting towards the heavens. carol knew about a strange thing that happened w/ a butterfly when my dad passed & i believe that somehow that was a sign- like my dads butterfly- that carol is in heaven. {carol, i love u my libra sister- sweet fairy dust dreams forever, until we meet again)
