Mrs. Geraldine M. (Lucas) Papelino, 100, passed away Tuesday evening with her loving and devoted family by her side.
Affectionately known as Gerry, she was born in Troy, NY, March 23, 1912, a daughter of the late John Sr. and Assunta (Ferraro) Lucas. Gerry was raised and educated in Utica and on April 24, 1934, joined in marriage to Rocco Papelino. Gerry and Rocco enjoyed a loving union of thirty-seven years until Mr. Papelino passed away on December 26, 1971. At one time, Gerry was employed at General Electric. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and a member of the Sons of Italy.
Gerry was the matriarch of the family and completely devoted to them. Holidays were a special time, especially Thanksgiving, where she had everyone at her home where they were able to enjoy her fabulous culinary talents, especially her Italian wedding soup and apple pie. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and dancing. Like in many Italian families, Gerry kept a very close relationship to her sisters and brothers and they spent many quality times together. Grandma Gerry also spent precious times with her beloved grandchildren, especially Matthew and Luke, who were the joy of her life and she instilled in all of them many of life’s lessons.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Shirley Papelino of Las Vegas, Charles and Annette Papelino, and Joseph Papelino, all of Utica; one brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Carolyn Lucas; one daughter-in-law, Minerva Papelino; one sister-in-law, Theresa “Tessie” Lucas; her beloved grandchildren, Curtis and Andrea Papelino, Deborah Slingland, Milissa and William Ouelette, Christopher Papelino, Daniel and Cecelia Papelino, Jeannine (Papelino) Johnson and Dr. Keith Johnson, and Charlene and Thomas Benjamin; also seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Lloyd Papelino in 2008; two brothers, Charles Lucas and John Lucas Jr.; and four sisters, Catherine Bruni, Mary Colangelo, Agnes Massi and Lena Lucas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church with private interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of mass.
Arrangements are with The Matt Funeral Home of Utica. |

You’re so much more than a mother and grandmother . . . you’re the women who shaped our lives. You’ve been our role model, for as long as we can remember . . . guiding our steps and setting a good example. You’ve been our biggest supporter . . . encouraging us to believe in ourselves. You’ve been our friend . . . listening to our problems with an encouraging hug. Yes, you were our mother and grandmother . . . but you’re also the wonderful person who’s made a real difference in all our lives.
We love you , we’ll miss you, and know you will always be with us, until we see you again. God Bless You.

Hai, nice to hear about setting up an onlnie store for graphic novels. What you say is true that many titles I wanna read are not available even in the biggest bookstores here, and I am hesitant to order onlnie from Amazon or any other for the fear it may not reach on time and the shipping charges. I wanna buy Watchmen International Edition now and have many titles in mind. If you can provide them, please mail me at . Thanx[]
