Angelo G. Cangello, 85, went to rest on his son Michael’s birthday, July 31, 2012 in the company of his family at Florida Memorial Medical Center.

Angelo was born May 3, 1927 in Utica, NY, a son of the late Ralph and Maria Zammiello Cangello. Through his childhood, he also knew the love and guidance of his “Dad”, Edgar Palazzo. Raised and educated locally, he graduated from Proctor High School and proudly served in the US Navy. His work ethic was lifelong, beginning with Bendix Corp., continuing as Supervisor with Purolator Courier Service, and most recently with the Ft. Lauderdale School System, where he was a Crossing Guard Supervisor until last year.

He spent many years as an active member of the Utica Maennerchor Club, as an officer and choir member, where he truly enjoyed many cherished friendships.

After moving to Tamarac, FL, he became active in the local community at Mainland’s 5, where he held offices of Vice President and later President. He was also very involved with Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Parish as an usher and men’s club member.

In July 1949, Angelo married Josephine M. Schiavone, a union which produced 3 children, Michael, Maria, and Marc. Later in life, he was married to Antoinette Caramato Kellogg, with whom along with her children, Marie, Catherine, and Laura, he shared 23 loving years.

Besides his loving wife, Antoinette, he leaves his children, daughter, Maria and Jim Hartt of NC; sons, Michael and Vicki Cangello of New York Mills, NY and Marc and Diane Cangello of Clarks Mills, NY; daughters, Marie and Dan Addington of FL, Catherine and Paul Barbarotta of FL, and Laura and Charles Stockton of NM; 13 grandchildren, Tracy, Angelo, Michele, Shane, Lorrie, Jessica, Dana, Ashley, Kalie, Robert, Brooke, Taylor, and Spencer; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging nephew, Kenneth Trapasso of Bolingbrook, IL and niece, Lois Pirro of Utica, NY; along with many relatives and friends in Utica and FL, including his card playing buddies from Mainland’s 5, and his special friends, Rock and Libby Barella.

He is predeceased by his sister, Lucille Trapasso and brothers, Anthony Cangello and Louis Palazzo.

Our special thanks to Dr. Mabourakh, for his exceptional care and attention to Angelo; and also to his many friends, who unconditionally gave of their love and time. You helped our family more than you will ever know, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Services were held in Florida per Angelo’s wishes. He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Utica, NY.

Antoinette and Family, I know how difficult this time is for each of you, but Ang left in his way and in his time, quickly. He has left a legacy of Family First and Foremost, and a work ethic that he gave a 150% of himself to. His word was everything, and there's nothing he wouldn't do or go out of his way to do for anyone. Life will be ever so different without him, but, like him-you must be strong. Take care, Butch

Ang, I met you when you and Antoinette were dating. You scared the heck out of me at first, I must admit. But I soon learned that under that gruff exterior was a "mush melon" and "Poppa Smurf" came alive when the children were around. It was an honor to have known you. Love, Bev

To Antoinette (Marie Toni) and all of Angelo's relatives and friends, We express our sympathy and condolances for his passing. All who knew Ang knew him to be a fighter. He fought for several years unbearable pain but never gave up. He always worked hard even until recently. He set the standard for what a family man should be like. Children gravitated to him like a magnet. He had a heart of gold. I was honored to have him a a Brother-in law. Joe And Pat Caramato

Dear Uncle Angelo, I miss you so much already even though in recent years, we lived so far apart. I can feel the void and my heart is so heavy. Thank you for being like a dad to my brother, Kenneth, and myself. You never forgot our birthdays or Christmas. Thank you for being a wonderful brother to my mom, Lucille. She could not have loved you more. You were almost like twins. In some ways, I am glad she went before you as she could never have stood to see her beloved brother sick or suffering. And I knew how much you loved her back. Always, even in our last conversation, you would tell me how you thought of her, missed her every day and kept her picture near you. I prayed she would watch over you and your passing was such that I believe she did. My granddaughter, Luccia, does not take to anyone easily but I believe she took to you so because of a direct connection to my mom. I will always remember the stories you would all tell over and over at Nanny's & Papa's Sunday dinners or on our treasured Christmas Eves. I can just hear you saying, "We picked peas and beans in the hot summer sun to help out!" Or "Lois, your mom would dress you in ribbons and curls and I would give you chocolate ice cream just so you'd make a mess!" And the laughs would ensue. Oh to go back to just one of those times together, just once! All of you left us such wonderful legacies. You taught us that family comes first, that the best times are the simple times spent together. You faced much adversity in your life but you never let it defeat you or damage your faith in God. Your shoulders were big enough to handle anything, and your heart big enough to love us all. Time goes by too quickly, these goodbyes just get harder. Uncle Ang, please know that in my heart's eye, in the corners of my memory, you will live always, smiling, your blue eyes twinkling. Give my love to my mom and to Nanny & Papa, Uncle Tony and Uncle Louis. I will love you always. Rest in peace. Until we meet again. Salute. See Ya, Lois
