Mr. Richard L. Montero, 39, passed into the hands of our Lord on Friday, August 31, 2012.

Rich was born in Utica on December 7, 1972, beloved son of Richard F. Jr. and Linda (Kaczmarek) Montero. He was educated in local schools and a graduate of New Hartford High School. He later attended Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT and Utica College. Rich was a talented entrepreneur who worked in finance and more recently owned and operated a water purification business, Mohawk Valley Water in New Hartford.

Rich lived life to the fullest and loved spending time skiing with his son in Vermont. He traveled extensively, but always enjoyed being home with his son, his family, and his many friends who loved being with him.

He is survived by his beloved son, Marquis Bradford; his father and step-mother, Richard and Nancy Montero; his mother and step-father, Linda and Chris Zangrilli; brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Danielle Zangrilli; grandparents, Richard and Virginia Montero; aunts and uncles, Gary Montero, Cynthia and Steve Bussey, and James and Nadene Kaczmarek; and a very special friend, Lauren O’Rourke, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Louis and Theresa Kaczmarek.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., in Utica. A service celebrating Richard’s life will be at the conclusion of calling hours, officiated by Pastor Kevin Lewis.

Growing up with Rich and knowing his family assures me that he will be terribly missed. In the time we had to reconnect as adults he talked alot about Marquis and how proud he was to be a father. I've been reminiscing in my mind about our childhood memories on Mary Street. You will be fondly remembered Rich. I hope you're at peace with the Lord. You can now watch over your son and family. Lots of love and prayers to everyone during this difficult time.

I know Rich from business networking together...I am just so shocked and saddened to hear about his passing. He had a million ideas and was so excited to share them. Never a time went by that he didn't talk fondly about his son. I didn't know him a long time but knew right away just how passionate he was about his work and his life. My hugs and prayers to his son and family. Rest in Peace Rich.
