Mrs. Mary Louise “Mary Lou” (Aquino) Guerino, 96, a lifelong Utican, passed away peacefully, with the love of her family in her heart, Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Sycamore House of Sitrin Healthcare.
She was born in Utica, May 1, 1927, the daughter of the late Pasquale A. and Petrina (Beratta) Aquino. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of TR Proctor High School.
On May 6, 1950, Mary Lou was joined in marriage to Joseph Guerino, Jr. They shared fifty loving years devoted to each other, and their family, until her beloved Joe passed away on February 3, 2000.
Mary Lou was employed at Foedish Lingerie, for several years. Always very artistic, Mary Lou loved to paint, wood sculpt, refinish furniture, and attended painting and sculpting courses at Munson Williams. She was a loving wife, mom, and grandmother, who loved to bake and cook for her family, and was well known for her Italian cookies and cake decorating skills. Mary Lou also enjoyed her trips to the casino, where the family has many fond memories together.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marcella and David Podos, Joseph M. and Fran Guerino, Christine Hamo and her partner, Jim Colone, and Patricia Lieber; grandchildren, Marc and Lara Guerino, Hetty and Jeremy Frye, Litty and Nick Chapman, Paul Guerino, and Arica Hamo; nephew, David, and his wife, Roberta Carleo; and a very special niece, Donna and her husband, John Carruth; special cousins, Kathleen Carpenter and LouAnn Mandronico; and lifelong friend, Marianne Carucci.
Mary Lou is predeceased by her brother, Felix “Phil” Aquino; sister-in-law, Marie Diab; cousin, Francine Lombino; “Uncle Joe and Aunt Kay” Beratta; and beloved extended family members.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica. There will be a prayer service at the conclusion of calling hours. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Sycamore House for the loving care and compassion shown to their mom during her stay.
