Utica, NY: Alexander E. Murad, 98, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the St. Luke’s Campus of MVHS.
Alex was born in Utica, December 28, 1923, a son of the late Karkour and Julia (Mardenly) Murad. He was educated in local schools and a graduate of St. Frances DeSales High School.
Alex was a proud Navy veteran who served our country during WWII. On April 10, 1950, Alex was joined in marriage to the former Antoinette Chanatry. A loving marriage of over 60 years, his beloved Antoinette passed away June 30, 2016. Alex was self-employed in the family grocery business, Murad Brothers, on South Street, and later ventured into the insurance industry, as a self-employed broker.
Alex was an individual who prided himself in his culture and was extremely proud of his Armenian heritage. Alex loved a good cigar, history, and the stock market and would always jump at the chance to discuss these topics.
The last of his generation of the Murad family, Alex is survived by two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Chanatry and Theresa Chanatry; many beloved nieces and nephews, Louis T. Brindisi, Gregory M. Murad, George C. Murad, Frederick W. Murad, Anthony A. Murad, George Kazanjian, Miriam Kazanjian, John Kazanjian, Vincent Singe Jr., Thomas Singe, Jill Broedel, Joseph Flint Jr., JoAnne Ambrose, John L. Murad, Jr., Hon. David Murad, Kirk Murad, Joseph Murad, Jeffrey Murad, Julie Caruso, Danyse Fusco, Dr. Michael A. Chanatry, Edward Chanatry, Rosanne Fallon, Mary Lou Boyer, John Chanatry, Louis Chanatry, Dr. Brian Chanatry, Martha Goldense, David Chanatry, Nadine Dye, Mary Mullroy, Michael G. Chanatry, Ameena Copeland, Joanne Tehan, Michael Chanatry, Robert Chanatry, and Mark Chanatry, as well as, all of their spouses, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, sisters, and their spouses, Anthony F. and Mary Murad, George Murad, Hon. John and Patricia Murad, Mary and Angelo Brindisi, Jenny and Vincent Singe, Nellie and George Kazanjian, and Antoinette and Joe Flint; as well as, his in-laws, Edward and Mary Chanatry, Joseph and Elizabeth Chanatry, Frederick Chanatry, William Chanatry and Nellie Chanatry.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday at 12 Noon, at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, (Lourdes Campus), 2222 Genesee St., Utica. This service will be live streamed. Please click link below at service time to view. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. The family will greet visitors following mass.
