Alvin Owens

Mr. Alvin Ross Owens, 84, passed away May 21, 2025, with his loving family by his side, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica.

Alvin was born in Rome, NY, September 1, 1940, a son of the late Elvid and Dorothy Owens. Alvin was raised and educated in Rome, NY and a graduate of Rome Free Academy. Upon graduation, Alvin enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly  served our country from 1958 to 1968. On October 10, 1970, Alvin was joined in marriage to the former Carol Prester, with whom he shared a beautiful union of 55 years together.  They were blessed with 3 beautiful children. 

For many years, Alvin was employed with Chicago Pneumatic and worked in data processing as a supervisor for 25 years.  Alvin loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed spirited conversations about work, sports, and politics. He was a big Fox News man and always had it on in the background. He enjoyed working around the house and made friends anywhere he went. Alvin was a big sports fan, especially of local teams, including many years spent enjoying the Utica Devils and Utica Comets playing at the auditorium.  

Alvin is survived by his wife, Carol; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Bianca Owens and Brian and Diana Owens; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Frank Archambeault; grandchildren, Ethan and Jackson Archambeault, Eliana and Rachel Owens, and Luca, Salvatore, and Nina Owens; his in-laws, Dennis and Juliette Giovinazzo, and Johanna DeCrisci; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Edna Owens; step-sisters, Sandra Reader, and Jackie and Rick Roberts; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Anthony and Joanne Sisti, and Mrs. Beverly DiPerna, for always being there for Alvin throughout the years. He was predeceased by his beloved grandmother who raised him, Elizabeth Owens; his mother, Dorothy Owens; his father, Elvid Owens and stepmother, Anna Owens; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Salvatore and Constance Prester; brother-in-law, Eugene DeCrisci; and step-brother-in-law, Douglas Reader.

Alvin’s Mass of Christian Burial, with military honors, will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, 9 a.m., at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish in Utica. The family will greet visitors after mass.
