Arthur Steneri Jr. Obituary

Hamilton, NY: Arthur J. Steneri Jr., 90, passed away peacefully, with his loved ones by his side, Monday, July 7, 2025, at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.

Art was born in Rochester, NY, December 15, 1934, a son of the late Arthur J. and Florence (Gale) Steneri. His father worked for the US Corp of Engineers and the family moved around the east coast several times. He attended pre-school and kindergarten in Ithaca and Newburgh, NY and elementary school in Tennessee and later back in NY State, where he attended PS32 in Flushing and later transferred to St. Andrew Avelino, graduating in 1948. He spent his high school years at Bayside High School and later graduated from Dwight School, in NYC, in 1952, where he participated on their swim team and was Asst. Editor of Dwight Scroll, the school’s yearbook.

In September of 1952, Art entered Colgate University, a place he truly loved right to his final’s days. He majored in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Botany, and graduated in 1956 with a Baccalaureate Degree. Art was a brother in the NY Zeta Chapter of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Chapter Chaplain during his senior year, a member of Marching Band, the Freshman Swim Team, the Outdoor Club, and played on the Intramural Sports Team for PDT. Additionally, he also studied at NYU, Mitchell College, Hofstra College, and Utica College. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp Reserve.

The day after graduation, Art started working for the Atlantic Refining Co. (ARCO), as a Dealer Service Salesman, covering Utica, Rome, and the Mohawk Valley. After two years, he and another ARCO salesman, Don Grabowski, “shook the norm” and resigned from ARCO and purchased Atlantic Service Station on French Rd. and Seward Ave., in Utica, the site of Chanatry’s Market.

In 1959, Art went to Hamilton seeking employment and made a connection with Bristol Laboratories, a Division of Bristol-Myers Co., at their NYC headquarters, where he accepted a position of pharmaceutical salesman and was assigned the territory of the south and upper west side of the Bronx. He was with Bristol for many years eventually retiring from Bristol Myers Squib Inc.

It was about that time Art met the LOVE OF HIS LIFE, Rose Bernadette “Bernie” George and they were soon married on May 28, 1960. They have shared over sixty-five loving years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Bernie; two sons and daughters-in- law, Andrew P. and Susan Steneri, and Brian D. and Denise Steneri; his daughter, Renee Geddes; grandchildren, Isabel and Matthew Steneri, Jessica Steneri, Samantha and Derek Loonan, and Gabrielle Russo; great grandchildren, Hunter and Harper Loonan; a sister, Barbara J. Peters; sister-in-law, Charlene George; and also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vincent Peters, Anthony George, Mary Ann Brigantino, Sadie and Joe Aquilino, James and Rosalie George, Joseph and Madlyn George,  Ann and Ben Koury, and Shemoney and George Koury.
