Augustine DeCarlis Obituary

Augustine Rose (Elacqua) DeCarlis, 92, passed away with her family’s love in her heart, on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Siegenthaler Center of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.

Augustine was born in Peck’s Run, WV, on August 11, 1928, a daughter of the late Peter and Palma (Esposito) Elacqua. She was educated in Sentry, WV until 8th grade when the family moved to Utica, where she attended Brandigee School. Augie worked at State Street Mills for 16 years until she took employment at the Masonic Home for 16 years, retiring in 1990. She also took loving care of her mom for many years until she passed away.

Augustine shared a close and loving relationship with longtime companion, Claude Rahauiser.

Augie was proud to be a yodeler and a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church.

She is survived by her companion, Claude; her daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Dominick “Dick” Yacco, Summerfield, FL; son, Peter DeCarlis and his friend, Theresa Vetere, of Clark Mills, NY; grandchildren, Lisa and Michael Pavia, Carrie and Steven Klepadlo, Jason DeCarlis, Lizza DeCarlis and fiancé, Jason Matos; great grandchildren, Robert Daniels, Jordan and Simone Sainsbury, and Sophia Pavia; a sister, Joann and Joe Barbero; a special cousin, Rosie DiCesare, Wheeling, WV; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Anthony and Laura Elacqua, James and Mary Elacqua, Joe and Flora Elacqua, Mary Valenti, Grace and Frank Leone, Ellen and Louie Geno, and Congetta Elacqua.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 11 a.m., at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, in Utica, with private interment in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The church is at limited capacity. Please come a little early to register for Covid tracing. Masks covering the nose and mouth, as well as, social distancing will be required. Church services will be live-streamed, information is on the Matt Funeral Home website.

The family wishes to thank the Siegenthaler Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. and the Abraham House, for all their attention and care shown to Augie during her illness. Please consider donations in her memory to these fine organizations.
