Beverly A. (Yaghy) Phillips, 85, passed away peacefully, January 12, 2024.
Beverly was born in Utica, February 17, 1938, a daughter of the late George and Mae (Alam) Yaghy. She was raised and educated locally and a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On October 3, 1975, Beverly was joined in marriage to Scott Phillips, with whom she shared over 48 loving years.
Beverly was employed by the city of Utica for many years. She held several positions and titles, which included office manager in various departments. She was involved in several Utica mayoral campaigns and was very proud of her service to the city. Beverly played in multiple bowling leagues. She enjoyed listening to Barbara Streisand and Frank Sinatra, and was a big fan of the movie Casablanca.
She is survived by her husband, Scott Phillips; daughter, Jackie and Richard Reile of Northport, FL; sons, Jerry and Carol Sessa of Murfreesboro, TN, and John Sessa of Utica and formerly of West Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren, Gerard and Ronda Sessa, Joseph Sessa, Taylor and Sabrina Sessa, Leanne and Greg Stegman, Jackie Sessa-Wameling, and John Sessa; great-grandchildren, Gerard Sessa IV, James Sessa, Elizabeth Sessa, and Colson Sessa; siblings, Robert “Bobby” Yaghy, Georgianna Kobos, Michael Yaghy, and Christina and Jeffrey Baker; and also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Jeffrey Sessa; and siblings, Anna Mae and Robert Conley, Albert and Sandra Yaghy, and James Yaghy.
The Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be officiated by Rev. Amedeo Guida, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger St., Utica, NY. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum, where she will be laid to rest with her son, Jeffrey. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 5-7 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.
