Brian C. Wood

Brian Christopher Wood, 50, passed away, in the comfort of his own home, Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Brian was born in Utica, NY, March 9, 1973, a son of Maria DeCola and the late John “Jack” Wood. He was raised and educated locally in Whitesboro by his mother, Maria and stepfather, Michael Babula , and graduated from Notre Dame High School. After graduation, Brian furthered his education at St. Lawrence University, where he played football, and went on to attend SUNY Brockport, where he received a B.S. in Exercise Science. He was awarded a M.S. in Biochemistry at Syracuse University where he also served as a graduate student adjunct professor. Brian did his fellowship program at the University of Buffalo  and eventually received his M.D. from SUNY Upstate Medical University. Brian’s main hobby was reading, and he could always be found with a book. He was a man of great faith and a devout Christian. He enjoyed fishing, but, most importantly, loved his three dogs, Lenny, Quinn, and Annie.

Brian is survived by his parents, Maria and Michael Babula; brothers, Michael and Melissa Babula, and Matthew Babula; sister-in-law, MaLisa Morrissey; nieces, Maria Wood, Alice Babula, Jane Babula, Anne Babula; cousins, Ann Marie and Todd Mesick; aunt and uncle, Diane and Doug Clark; and special friends, Dave Kingwater, Dave Stewart, Scott Brennick, Dean Stewart, and Jawad Kassem. He was predeceased by his father, John “Jack” Wood; brother, Captain George A. Wood; grandparents, George and Nancy DeCola, and Stanley and Marjorie Babula.

Brian’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass.
