Celeste Haggerty-Aney Obituary

Celeste A. Haggerty-Aney, 42, passed away with her loved ones by her side on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Celeste was born in New Hartford on October 4, 1973, a daughter of James and Rosaria (Perritano) Haggerty. She attended Utica and later Mohawk Schools, and graduated from Mohawk Central School District in 1992. Celeste continued her education and graduated from HCCC, where she received an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She earned her Bachelors in Education from the University of Phoenix and her Masters from Empire State College. Celeste was employed by OHM BOCES special education for twelve years until her retirement due to illness. At one time, Celeste was married to Robert Aney and from that union she had three children. She was a member and past president of American Legion Utica Post 229 Auxillary in North Utica. Celeste was an avid camper and always enjoyed Gilbert Lake with her kids and college friends, sharing many happy memories. She is survived by her twin daughters, Katherine and Josephine Aney; her parents, Jim and Rosaria; her sisters, Michele Haggerty and Christina Haggerty, all of Mohawk; her aunts and uncles, Gene and Sue Haggerty, Anthony and Sue Perritano, Geraldine and Bill Desnoyer, and Mickey and John Hover; two great aunts, Rose Nassif and Victoria Perritano; and many cousins and friends, especially acknowledging, Harry Montgomery. She was predeceased her son, James B. Aney, who was always close to her heart; grandparents, Harold and Lucy Haggerty, and Dominick and Josephine Perritano; aunt, Frances Fuqua; cousin, Heather Haggerty, and brother-in-law, Doug Dygert. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church on Main St. in Mohawk, NY. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica. The American Legion Utica Post 229 Auxiliary will meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home for ritualistic services. For directions to the funeral home, click the link above.
