Concetta “Connie” (Commesso) Broccoli, 86, passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Presbyterian Home of CNY.
Born in Geneva, NY, August 28, 1937, Connie was a daughter of the late Francis “Frank” and Carmella (Gerace) Commesso. She came to Utica, as a child, and was raised and educated in local schools. Connie graduated from T.R. Proctor High School in June of 1955.
On May 12, 1962, she was joined in marriage to Victor J. Broccoli. Victor and Connie created strong bonds of love and loyalty, throughout their 38 year union, that was filled with many joys and blessings, until his passing on July 4, 2000.
Connie was a stenographer for the Utica City School District for 22 years, until her retirement in January of 2002. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel and an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society and the St. Anne’s Society. In August of 2005, she moved to Marcy, NY, where she also became a communicant of St. Paul’s Church.
She is survived by her beloved children, daughter and son-in-law, Carmella and John Mellone of Cleveland, OH and a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Victoria Broccoli of Deerfield, NY; her adored grandchildren, Alyssa and Jordan Kaplan, Anthony Mellone, and Ava and Savio Broccoli; beloved great grandchildren, Zachary and Sloan Kaplan, her beloved and devoted brother, Dominic Commesso; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ted Cherubin, Donald and Kathleen Broccoli and Helene Broccoli; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Connie was also blessed with many friends. She was predeceased by her infant brother, Francis Commesso; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Porcia Broccoli; and in-laws, Thomasina (Thelma Broccoli) McCluskey, Mary Cherubin, and Arthur Broccoli.
All are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, 5 to 7 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica.
