Congetta M. Elacqua, 79, passed away peacefully, after a long illness with her loved ones by her side on Monday, September 5, 2016, at the Siegenthaler Center of Hospice and Palliative Care. Congetta was born on the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 1936, in Century, WV, one of nine children to the late Peter and Palma (Esposito) Elacqua. The family moved to Utica when she was a child and she was educated in local schools. Congetta was employed as an administrator at Griffis Air Force Base for over thirty-three years. In earlier years, she enjoyed bowling, but really spent most of her life caring for her beloved mother, sisters, and brother, who were always close to her heart. A loving sister and aunt, Congetta is survived by her brother, Anthony "Tony" Elacqua, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Augustine DeCarlis, Claude Rahauiser, and Joann and Joseph Barbero; also many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; with special mention of niece, Nancy Wrate, who was always there for her; and great niece, Christina Elacqua, who went above and beyond during Congetta's illness. She was predeceased by her two brothers, James and Joseph Elacqua; and three sisters, Mary Valenti, Ellen Geno, and Grace Leone. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
