Mrs. Cynthia A. “Cindy” Lazzaro, 74, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital. Her loving family was by her side.
Cindy was born in Utica, September 23, 1950, a daughter of the late Robert K. and Rosemary A. (Johnson) Dumas. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of Utica Free Academy.
She later continued her education attending MVCC, where she became a Registered Nurse, and went on to study at SUNY IT, where she received her Master’s Degree in Nursing, a career she truly loved. She was employed by the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center for over thirty years, retiring as the Assistant Director of Nursing. Her love for nursing and helping others didn’t end when she retired from the State. She went on to work for Kids Oneida (now known as ICAN). Her nursing career was something she never wanted to give up.
On April 19, 1975, Cindy was joined in marriage to John P. Lazzaro. She and John shared over forty-nine years of marriage, devoted to each other and their family.
Cindy’s grandchildren were her whole world. She enjoyed watching them play tennis, soccer, baseball, football, softball, bowling, field hockey, and volleyball, and she did her best to never miss an event. Cindy’s happy place was spending time on the St. Lawrence River with her family. She loved being on “River Time” where she enjoyed skeeball, mini golf, ice cream at Gal’s Place, shopping, puzzles, and sitting and watching the sunsets and freighters go by. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, and craft fairs.
An avid bowler, she bowled in several leagues in the area. A die-hard Yankee fan, she adored Derek Jeter. A devoted Barry Manilow fan, she saw him in concert whenever possible and knew the words to every song.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John; her daughter, Lisa Kowalczyk; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Rianna Lazzaro; grandchildren, Kenneth Andrew Kowalczyk, and John Paul and Ella Marie Rose Lazzaro; siblings, Deborah and Terry Dutton, Robbie and Linda Dumas, Susan Dumas, Mark and Betty Dumas; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Gau and Peggy Dumas; and also many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Rosemary; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Julia Lazzaro; brother, Gary Dumas; brother-in-law, Jim Gau; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Paula and Dominic Pardi.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica. There will be a prayer offered at the end of calling hours at 3 p.m., by Father Joseph Salerno. Private entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.
Rest in peace, Mom, we will forever love you and cherish all the memories.
