Mr. Dennis C. Gorden, 81, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his own home, Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Dennis was born May 26, 1943, in Augusta, Maine, a son of the late Herman and Dorothy (Kierstead) Gorden. He was raised and educated there and was a graduate of Coney High School. On September 3, 1966, Dennis was joined in marriage to the former Nancy White, with whom he shared over 58 years of loving marriage.
A hard worker and family man, Dennis held several jobs, throughout the years, to support his family, in the automotive industry, an industry of which he was very passionate. Dennis spent over 32 years with Champion Spark Plugs, as a territory sales manager, and for many years as a salesman, with Fisher Auto Parts and also at the local Pep Boys. In his younger years, Dennis was an avid hunter, and especially enjoyed the hunting club in Montague. He also loved skiing. Later in life, Dennis grew a passion for golfing and spent several years traveling with his wife, to their condo in Myrtle Beach, to enjoy the sunshine and golf courses. They spent over 15 years visiting Myrtle Beach and in their later years began visiting Palm Bay, Florida, where they made several friends along the way. A man of many trades, Dennis was known for being able to fix and take care of anything and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Michelle Gorden; son-in-law, Mark Nutley; grandchildren, Zachary Gorden, Allison Gorden, Adam Nutley, and Sean Nutley; his beloved pup and companion, Pixie; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends, including, in the Northrup and Vanderlan families. Dennis is predeceased by his beloved daughter, who passed away far too soon after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Becky Nutley; and his siblings, Maynard Gorden, Priscilla Gallagher, and Beverly Allen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2024, 4-6 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica. There will be a prayer service at the end of visitation with Deacon Tony Paparella, officiating. Dennis will be laid to rest in Oriskany Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
