Mrs. Dolores “Dee” Hierl, 83, passed away at home, after a long illness, with her loving husband by her side, on Thursday, July 29, 2021.
Dolores was born in Utica, August 8, 1937, daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Tartaglia) Giglio. She was educated in Utica schools and a 1955 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. Following high school, Dolores attended Albany Teacher’s College (now SUNY Albany), where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1959; and later attended Canisius College, and in 1970, received her Master’s Degree. Dolores taught at Proctor from 1959 to 1962. She then moved to Williamsville, NY, where she was a high school math teacher at Sweet Home High School for thirty years, retiring in 1992.
On December 18, 1971, Dolores was joined in marriage to Frank Hierl. They resided in Williamsville, NY. They retired to St. Augustine, FL where they have enjoyed many years. Frank and Dolores would have celebrated fifty loving years together this December.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Sam Gooldy, of East Amherst, NY; her son and daughter-in-law, Thom and Ginger Hierl, of Vienna, VA; her beloved grandchildren, Chase, Trey, and Portia Gooldy and Ryan and Kaitlyn Coyle, also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Russell, Thomas “Timmy”, and Gary Giglio
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, 5 to 7 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica.
