Our beloved mother, Domenica “Mamie” (Speciale) Mazzatti, 93, a lifelong Utican, passed away, at home in Albany, May 2, 2026, with her loving family gathered by her side.
Mamie was born in Utica, October 2, 1932, a daughter of the late Philip and Anna (Sciortino) Speciale. Mamie graduated from T.R. Proctor High School, class of 1950. Married six years later, she soon began a family with her late husband, Thomas.
Mamie also worked as a bookkeeper for several local companies throughout the years which included Abelove’s Laundry, Falatico’s Sausage, John’s Auto Repair, and Riverside Materials, each being better off because of her contributions.
Mamie devoted her life to her family, faith, and friends. She was an active member of her longtime church, St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, and enjoyed cooking, baking, and volunteering. She passed on some special traditions related to faith and food that will be shared for generations to come.
Our family matriarch also was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John Commandery #853 at St. Anthony Padua Church, in Utica.
Mamie was a most loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her four children, Mary Ann Roberts and her husband, Tim of Albany, NY, Lorraine Mayhew and her husband, Nick of Whitesboro, NY, Philip Mazzatti and his wife, Michelle of Southington, CT, and Anthony Mazzatti and his wife, Aimee of Johnson City, NY; ten grandchildren, Brittany, Adam, Sara, Angela, Nick, Katie, Christina, Thomas, Anthony, and Anderson; and three great grandchildren: Joseph, Nolan, and Riley. Mamie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Thomas Mazzatti; an infant son, Thomas; her brother, Vincent Speciale; and her loyal friend of 70 years, Lucretia Defuria. We are confident she is reuniting with friends and family members in heaven. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Paul and the Community Hospice team for the compassionate care and kindness shown to our mother.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, May 6, 10 a.m., at St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, May 5, 4 to 7 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica.
