Dominick Speciale Obituary

Mr. Dominick A. “Doc” Speciale, 91, passed away unexpectedly, in his home, Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

Dominick was born in Utica, November 27, 1932, a son of the late Vincenzo and Carmella (Amendola) Speciale. He attended local schools and graduated from T.R. Proctor High School. Mr. Speciale served in the US Army, as Sgt., during the occupation of Germany from 1950 – 1953. On October 3, 1953, he was joined in marriage to his high school sweetheart, the former Marion DeSantis. Doc and Marion shared over sixty-two loving years of marriage until his beloved Marion passed away on March 24, 2016. Doc worked for General Electric for over 40 years. He started in the Radio & Receiving area, moving onto the position of electrician, then master electrician, where he was promoted to the role of Foreman, until his retirement, in 1994.

Doc always maintained his sharp wit and was an exceptional story teller who loved to bring his stories to life for his family and many friends. He served as General Chairman of the St. Joseph Society, and was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Back in the day, he was an avid hunter, who enjoyed being outdoors. For many years, he was a member of the Mid Valley Beagle Club, where he loved to run and compete his beagles.

Dominick is survived by his son, Vincent Speciale of Schenectady; two daughters, Carmella and Gary DiCesare, and Frances and Crispino Velardi, both of Utica; grandchildren, Roxanne and Jeff Turck, Crispino and Amanda Velardi, and Valerie Frances Velardi; great grandchildren, Drew Baker, Gracie Putman, Scarlett and Gemma Velardi;  his grand dog, Mare (Mod-e-on), who earned a special place in his heart, especially after the passing of his wife; a sister, Angie DeMichele; in-laws, Joseph and Pat DeSantis; and also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marion; in-laws Rocco (Flash) and Frances DeSantis; brother, Joseph Speciale; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Pauline and Jim Cavo, Anna and Roger Burdick; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anthony and Terry DeSantis, Paul and Carol DeSantis, and Norman DeMichele.
