Dorothy Rizzo Obituary

Dorothy Ann Rizzo, 90, a lifelong Utica resident, passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Masonic Care Community.

Dorothy was born in Utica, November 4, 1934, a daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Arcuri) Rizzo. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of TR Proctor High School. She was employed for many years at the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and later at the Masonic Home, until her retirement.

Time spent with family was so special to Dorothy; she always enjoyed her loved ones, especially baking their traditional Christmas cookies, all the holidays, delicious dinners, and especially all their day trips.

Dorothy’s strong faith was very important to her. Her religious beliefs were her focus in life and she prayed the rosary and attended novenas and mass weekly. She loved time spent at her camp and in the water on the Black River, and enjoyed sewing and especially baking for her loved ones. While Dorothy spent five years at the Masonic Care Community, she enjoyed many activities including religious services, Bingo, Music, Happy Hour and walking around the beautiful Masonic grounds. Dorothy also loved watching the Hallmark channel and missed her beloved dog, Princess.

A very loving aunt, Dorothy is survived by her niece, Kim (David) Daniels and nephew, Frank Rizzo; great nephew, David Daniels; great niece, Carmella (Kevin) Boyer; great great niece, Grace Eva Boyer; and her close friends, Gloria Mancuso, Annette Graziano, and Rose Marie LaBarbara, all of whom she spent many enjoyable hours shopping, lunching, and going on bus trips.

She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Frank P. and Florence Rizzo; and great nephew, Zachary Otis Rizzo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, January, 4, 2025, at 2 p.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. The family will greet visitors at the end of mass. Private interment will be in New Forest Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the Monticello Household and the staff of the Masonic Care Community, especially, Naomi, Ileana, Vicki, Elvisa, Chyna, Claudia, Amy, Mary, Velina, Dina, Azara, Amanda, Leah, and Dr. Olteanu, for the loving care and compassion shown to Dorothy during her stay.
