Dorothy Sageer Obituary

Dorothy Faye (Potter) Sageer, 91, passed away peacefully at home, with her loving family by her side, Thursday, February 2, 2023.

Dorothy was born in Big Springs, TX, November 27, 1931, a daughter of the late William and Effie (Jones) Potter. She was raised and educated in Texas; and on a visit with relatives in Utica, she met Joseph Sageer, and Dorothy could not resist his charm.

They were soon married on September 15, 1956, and shared twenty-eight loving years together, living in Utica where they raised their family. She lost her beloved Joe, at a young age, on December 8, 1984.

Dorothy was employed as the office manager, at Cavo Brothers, for over twenty years, and following retirement, took a management position, at Mohawk Arms, for several years.

Dorothy’s family was everything to her, with unconditional love for all, she was a loving Mother, “Grammie and Moppie”, and will be missed by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, with whom she resided, Selma and Anthony Fumarola; two sons and one daughter-in-law, George and Sandra Sageer and James “Jimmy” Sageer, all of Holland Patent; adored grandchildren, Joseph and Melissa Sageer, Santo Joseph Sageer and Amber Sageer, Mary Fumarola, Anthony Fumarola and his fiance, Kate Masullo,  Alexandria and Kyle Florczyk, and Allen Clarke; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Paige, Gracie, Vinny, Marcello, Eli and Ophelia; and also many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, including  a special nephew, Peter Defazio and his wife Tina.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Kamaley Sageer, who was always close to her heart; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sarkis and Selma Sageer and two sisters and a brother –in-law, Ethel and Joseph Defazio and Effie Potter, brothers-in-law and sisters in law, Dominick and Naomi Sageer, George and Vera Sageer, John and Lucy Sageer, Abe and Mary Abraham and Mike and Jennie Morette.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed, Wednesday, February 8th, at 11 a.m., at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, celebrated by Abouna Boutros El Hachem, Pastor. The family will greet visitors following mass. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband and daughter in Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, especially her granddaughter, Mary Fumarola, as well as, Tina Hussein, Morgan Primo, Zita Platt, and the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, for their loving attention and compassion during this difficult time. Also special thanks to the Floyd and Holland Patent Fire Departments and Kunkel Ambulance, for their kind assistance.
