Ernest F. Mear

Mr. Ernest F. Mear, 85, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, January 29, 2017. Ernest was born in Rome, NY on August 27, 1931, a son of the late Glen and Jessie (Bryan) Mear. He was a graduate of Rome High School, and continued his education at Utica College, and many colleges all over the country, where he studied Agriculture. Mr. Mear served in the Air Force from 1950 until 1954; where he was involved in intelligence gathering in Japan and Korea, and honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. On September 10, 1955, Ernest married the former Carmellina Cardillo. Ernest's career spanned thirty-five years as an Inspector with the US Dept. of Agriculture throughout Central and Northern NY, first for Oneida County, then NYS, and finally at the Federal level from which he retired. Ernest is survived by his wife, Carmellina; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith Ann and Robert Condella, of VA Beach; a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Cynthia Mear, of Utica; grandson, Glen Mear; step-grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Trisha, and Nikita; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Victor and Mary (Utter) Cardillo; and also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Cottman, and nephew, Jefferey Cottman. Ernest's family honored him privately with interment in Calvary Cemetery.
