With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we wish to share the devastating loss of our beautiful and devoted mother, Florence “Joppy” Basile, 93, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, with those she loved dearly by her side.
Born in Utica on November 14, 1931, Joppy was the daughter of Francis (Frank) J. and Josephine (Barone) Rotundo. Her mother passed away during childbirth, and she was raised by her father, Frank and stepmother, Louise Rita (Barone) Rotundo, whom she considered her loving mother. She was educated in local schools. On September 20, 1952, Joppy was joined in marriage to Pasquale A. “Pat” Basile, a union of fifty-nine loving years until Pat's passing on May 2, 2011. Over the past 13 ½ years, Joppy missed her husband Pat dearly.
As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Joppy's joys in life were cooking and spending countless hours with her family, especially her grandchildren. On any given Sunday, you would find Joppy in her kitchen cooking her Italian Sunday dinner while family and friends surrounded her table. Christmas was always such a special time in Joppy’s life that was filled with traditions where she would joyfully take her grandchildren Christmas shopping, bake the best Christmas “cutout” cookies, and host a magical Christmas Eve dinner year after year. No matter the sporting event or school event, Joppy was always present supporting her grandchildren.
Our mother, Joppy, was a very classy lady, who was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside and was always meticulous about her appearance.
She is survived by her beloved children, Patrick Basile, Frank (Joanna) Basile, and Laura (Michael) Cedar, grandchildren, Frank (Aileen) Basile Jr., Jeff (Catherine) Basile, Erica Basile, Rodney (Felicia) Dowell, Nicholas Dowell, and Jon Cedar; great grandchildren, Nico, Luca, Caroline, Mila, and Julia Basile, and Fia Dowell; her devoted sister-in-law, Carol Trinco who was always there for Joppy; and her beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and many beloved family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel / Blessed Sacrament Parish at 12 noon. https://youtube.com/@st.maryofmountcarmelblesse1703?si=8OxDM04RpLRCv54Z Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to those who aided Joppy during her final years.
