Francis J. Kiernan, 85, passed away with his loving family by his side, Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center of MVHS.
Fran was born in Watertown, NY, October 9, 1936, a son of the late Francis and Emma (Dunn) Kiernan. He was raised and educated in Utica and a 1955 graduate of TR Proctor High School, where he was a three star athlete, excelling in football, basketball and baseball. Fran always remained a very loyal supporter of the Proctor Panthers.
An avid golfer, he played all over the Utica area, the US and even traveled to Ireland to follow his passion of playing golf all over the world. Fran was also a die-hard fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians.
A lifelong Teamster trucker, he was employed with various truck companies in the area, retiring from St. Johnsbury Trucking Co., several years ago. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Boonville and the Whitestown Veterans Association.
A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be sadly missed by his four children, Francine and Steven Barry of Whitesboro, Kimberly and John Giruzzi of Yorkville, Francis and Bonny Kiernan of Stittville and Sherry Kiernan of Yorkville; beloved grandchildren, Erica Schneider, Amanda Sullivan (Jonnie), Lauren Converse (Brian), Scott Barry, Francis Kiernan (Gabrielle), Allie Gomez (Emanuel) and Jason Meeker (Darcy); and fifteen beloved great grandchildren. He was predeceased by the mother of his children, Dolores (Sarcone) Kiernan.
