Gary Maroun Acey, 53, passed away unexpectedly at home, Monday, March 17, 2025, due to natural causes after a brief illness.
He was born in Utica, July 6, 1971, a son of the late Thomas and Mary MacLagger Acey. He was raised and educated locally and a graduate of Notre Dame High School, class of 1989. He later attended MVCC, receiving an Associate's Degree, before attending Syracuse University.
Gary especially enjoyed his work as a DJ and videographer. He was employed by the Utica City School District for several years and most recently employed by Birnie Bus Co. He also took great pride in his work with The ARC and CABVI.
As a young man, Gary was an avid hockey player and fan of the New York Islanders. He was a skateboarder; along with his brother, Rob, and many friends who might remember the half pipe that they built in the Acey's backyard on Tamarack Street. He also enjoyed cycling and working to rebuild bikes for local children as part of Build-A-Bike.
Gary is survived by his beloved son, Matthew Thomas Acey, along with Matt's mom Pamela Davis-Acey. Also surviving are his sister, Audra Acey; aunts and uncles, Sheila Acey Tutino, Bob MacLagger, and Kathleen MacLagger DiDonato; nieces and nephew Gianna, Robert, and Abigail; along with many cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved father, Tom Acey; mother, Mary Acey; and brother, Rob Acey.
There will be no public services at this time. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a gofundme at https://gofund.me/be6fbead setup by the family in order to assist. Anything left over will be donated to a local charity for children’s youth sports.
