Utica, NY: Mrs. Gertrudis Rodriguez, 96, passed away with loved ones by her side on Sunday, August 9, 2020, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, after a short illness.
Gertrudis was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, on October 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Felix Maria Pacheco and Maria Mercedes Urena, and was educated there.
She came to this country and to NYC in the late 1950’s, traveling back and forth to her home country and eventually moved to the Utica area in 2007. In 1943, Gertrudis married Jose Nicanor Rodriguez. The couple spent over sixty loving years together and raised their seven children, until Jose passed away on October 19, 2005. Gertrudis was devoted to Jose and continued this devotion until her death.
Gertrudis remained in her own home and loved to travel anywhere, especially Santiago. She was a firecracker, whose family doted on her and treated her like a Princess. She loved her baby doll, Rosita, of whom she treated as if she were her own baby.
She is survived by her children, Pedro Pablo Rodriguez, Maria Magdelena and Felix Manuel Hernandez, Eusebio Carlito Rodriguez, Reynilda Del Carmen Rodriguez, Pedro Alejandrino Rodriguez, Jose Rafael and Argelia Rodriguez, Francisco Nicanor and Cathy Rodriguez; twenty-seven grandchildren, especially acknowledging those that spent the summers with her, Jenny Marranzini, Cathy Marmol, Danny Marmol and Adrian Pinero; 47 great grandchildren; her favorite brother, Felicito Urena; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family honored her privately and she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Jose Nicanor, in Fort Lee, NJ.
