Harold "Gene" Haggerty

Harold “Gene” Haggerty, 72, passed away with his loved ones by his side, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the St. Elizabeth Campus of MVHS.

Gene was born in Utica, October 31, 1949, a son of the late Harold T. and Lucy (Albano) Haggerty. He was educated in local schools and a graduate of Utica Free Academy. He later attended Hudson Valley Community College, majoring in auto mechanics, and received an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology.

He worked as an auto mechanic, for over forty years, and at one time was employed at Papandrea’s, Monopoli’s, and Steet Ponte Ford.

On September 8, 1973, Gene was joined in marriage to the former Susan Franz. They have shared forty-nine loving years, devoted to each other and their family.

Gene’s life revolved around his wife and family, and he loved time spent with them, especially camping, boating, and fishing. He faced life head on and lived it the way he wanted.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; his daughter and son in law, Jennifer and Jerry Arrao; his adored grandchildren, Christopher and Sydney; aunt, Rose Nassif; mother-in-law, Joan Franz; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Donald and Paula Franz, Tracy Franz, Jeff Franz, and Rosaria Haggerty; and also many beloved nieces and nephews,  especially his Godchild, Michele Haggerty.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Heather Haggerty, whose memory he always held close to his heart; brother, Jim Haggerty; father-in-law, Donald Franz Sr., niece, Celeste Haggerty-Aney.

In keeping with Gene’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services and his family will honor him privately.

Gene’s family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff of 3C at St. Elizabeth Hospital, especially Mike, for the loving care shown to Gene during his illness.
