An enthusiastic sports fan, Jim was instrumental in beginning the New Hartford Youth Hockey Program, including helping with the fund raising, and construction of the New Hartford Youth Center. He was involved in all facets of Hockey, including coaching. An avid hunter and fisherman first with his dad and later with his sons and grandson, Jim found great pleasure in the activity.
