Jeanne (Zumpano) Gossin

Jeanne (Zumpano) Gossin, 89, passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the St. Luke’s Home.

Born in Utica, April 17, 1934, Jeanne was a daughter of the late Ernest and Congetta (Santagata) Zumpano. She was raised and educated locally and graduated from UCA. Jeanne went on to attend Le Moyne College, where she was Valedictorian of her class, and received her English Degree. She later went on to attend Syracuse University, where she received her Master’s Degree in Education.

On August 6, 1960, Jeanne was joined in marriage to Thomas Gossin, with whom she shared over 57 loving years until Tom’s passing in 2018. When her children were young, Jeanne was very active in the Blessed Sacrament Mother’s Club and enjoyed acting in their variety shows. She loved playing bocce at the local Sons of Italy. Sunday family dinners were always important to Jeanne, where she would put on a fabulous meal for the whole family. She enjoyed her summers at Cedar Lake, with her friends, who were known as the “Ladies of the Lake”.

She is survived by her children, Mary Lourdes Gossin, Judith Anne Gossin, Thomas A. Gossin and his wife Traci, and Jennifer Cittadino and her husband Philip; grandchildren, Nicholas Priore and his wife Danielle, Andrew J. Priore, Alexandra P. Quigley and her husband Adam, Camille E. Gossin, Cathleen S. Gossin, Gina M. Cittadino, Philip J. Cittadino Jr., and Sophia C. Cittadino; great grandchild, Aria J. Priore; siblings, Joan Zumpano, Michael and Maureen Zumpano, Albert and Patricia Zumpano, and Matthew Zumpano; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jeanne was predeceased by her sister, Marie Therese Zumpano; brother, Ernest Zumpano; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ann Gossin, and Norma and John Flihan; and son-in-law, Nicholas S. Priore, Esq.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, at 12 pm, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Visitation will be Friday, 6 to 8pm, at The Matt Funeral Home, Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica. Interment will be with her beloved husband Tom at St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Clinton, at the family's convenience.
