Jessie Bianco DeVito, age 98, entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2015, in Baltimore, MD, where she resided for the past six years. Jessie was born in Utica, NY, on December 21, 1916, the daughter of the late Palmerino and Josephine LaPorte Bianco. She graduated from Utica Catholic Academy, where she was on the honor roll. Jessie worked as a stenographer at Utica Free Academy and as an administrative assistant at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. On August 2, 1941, Jessie was married to Silvio Arthur "Art" DeVito, who passed away in 1984. He came to America in 1927 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Once their children went to college, Jessie returned to the workforce as a retail clerk at Mutual Distributers and as a secretary at Doyle Hardware. Mrs. DeVito enjoyed her vacations visiting shrines in Canada, touring Italy, and especially enjoyed going to the ocean. Jessie was an active member of the Elder-life Senior Center, the North Utica Senior Center and the Saint Anne Society. While in Baltimore, she attended the Stella Maris Senior Day Care Center and visited many area Catholic Shrines. She will be missed by her family. Her survivors include her daughter, Josephine Scalzo and her husband, Anthony Scalzo, of Milwaukee, WI and her daughter, Angela DeVito, and her husband, James Heckman, of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by her grandson, David Scalzo, and his wife, Catherine, of Milwaukee, WI and grandson, Jay DeVito Heckman, of Baltimore, MD; two great grandchildren; her sister, Lena Bianco of Utica, NY.; and many cousins, nephews and nieces, including her loving goddaughter, Anne Bianco Stinebrickner. She was predeceased by her brothers, Angelo, Anthony, and Paul Bianco. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 10th at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Utica with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica on Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m. Jessie, who had allergies, often stated, "I will probably even sneeze if flowers are at my funeral."
