John Roberts Obituary

John Douglas “Jackie” Roberts, 84, went home to the Lord, October 17, 2021. His passing was at the Presbyterian Home of CNY.

Jackie was born in Utica, March 29, 1937, a son of the late Charles and Rosemond (O’Brian) Roberts. He was educated at St. Francis DeSales School.

He worked for many years on the grounds of Calvary Cemetery and later at several local churches and in the maintenance department of St. Elizabeth Medical Center, from where he retired after many years of service.

A very loving son, Jackie spent most of his life caring for his beloved mother until her passing.  He was a longtime resident of the Chancellor Apartments and could often be seen cruising the East Utica area in his motorized chair.

He is survived by his brother, Robert J. “Bob” Roberts Sr.; a sister, Jean Jackson; and also many nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Bonnie Lynne Miner.

He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law,  Dolores L. and James Bonanza; and sister-in-law, Dorothy E. Roberts.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass, Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 1 p.m., at Historic Old St. Johns Church.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Presbyterian Home, especially social worker Dan Perry and night nurse, Penny, for the loving care shown to Jackie during his stay there.
