Joseph George Obituary

Mr. Joseph K. George, 81, passed away with his loved ones by his side on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at The Abraham House in Utica. Joseph was born in Albany, NY, on October 1, 1934, the only son of John and Patricia (Majka) George. He was raised and educated in Utica and a 1952 graduate of Utica Free Academy. Joe then attended Arizona State College in Tempe, AZ and served in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1955. Joe worked at General Electric in their Kent St., Bleecker St., and Broad St. operations, from 1955 to 1968. He then took a position at Associated Textiles, Utica Division, and served as General Manager overseeing their Syracuse, Potsdam, Elmira, Binghamton, Schenectady and Oneonta operations retiring in 1994. He later worked at the UFCW, Local One for 5 years retiring again in 1999. On November 9, 1957, Joseph was joined in marriage to the former, Constance Faye Wildrick. They shared fifty-eight years together, raised their two children and gave love and support to their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe and Connie always remained extremely close to all members of their family, and always looked forward to Sunday dinners. Joe had a great outlook on life, always smiling and enjoying social and family affairs. Joe George was the area's biggest sports enthusiast and rarely missed anyone's game. In younger years, he was always on the sports field, where he played, baseball, softball and basketball in the 1950's and 1960's. In the 1970's he played golf and was a former member of Higby Hills Country Club and Valley View Country Club. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Tricia George; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Sal Nicolette; grandchildren, Corrine and David Doolen, Brook and David Summa, Samantha George, Louis Sbarra, and Salvatore Nicolette Jr; great grandchildren, Craig "CJ" Lebert, Georgina Summa, David Summa, Alexis Doolen, Dakota Doolen, and Madison Sbarra; and also many beloved and special friends too numerous to mention. "It's going to be a Tia Maria night". His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the caregivers of the Abraham House, as well as, Hospice & Palliative Care, especially Ann and Irene, for their care and compassion during Joe's illness.
