Mr. Joseph George Inserra, 79, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
Joseph was born in Utica, March 31, 1943, a son of the late Pasquale Thomas and Roma Ester (Stein) Inserra. He was raised locally and educated in Frankfort Schools, Joseph graduated from Frankfort Central High School.
During the Vietnam War, Joe served as a STF SGT in the US Air Force. He attended MVCC and SUNY Upstate, where he majored in electrical engineering, and received his Master’s Degree at Syracuse University.
On July 4, 1964, he was wed to the former Barbara Jean Stewart and they have shared over fifty-eight loving years of marriage.
Joe retired as an electrical engineer, from Remington Arms, after 35 years. He also was an adjunct professor at SUNY College of Technology for a number of years.
The final phase of his well-rounded career was spent as a respected electrical inspector, who was still getting calls a year after he had to retire completely.
He was very proud of his car collection which he enjoyed showing to anyone who stopped by, or asked about.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne Marie Inserra and George O’Neil; son, Joseph George Inserra IV and Cheryl Sexton; daughter, Bernadette Leigh Inserra and Garrett Ayers; and was very proud to have had the privilege to raise Crystal and David, who he raised as his own children; eight grandchildren, Timothy Clifford, Ellen and Nate Burton, Megan and Mike Tartaglia, Emilee Dygert, Briana Allen, Samuel Ayers, Maxwell Ayers, and Elias Ayers; four great grandchildren, Holden, Owen, Oliver, and Zelda; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Roma Macri, Lucille Weiner, Roseanne and Tony Bonaventure, Theresa and Bart O’Neil, and Tina and Jim Harris; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Patrick and Roseanne Inserra and Jakob Koeck; and also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Inserra.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 19th, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Private inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, September 18th, 3 to 5 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica.
