Mr. Joseph F. Lonero, 83, succumbed to cancer, peacefully, July 11, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Joe was born in Utica, NY, January 26, 1941, a son of the late Alfred and Florence (Fiore) Lonero. He was raised and educated locally in Utica.
When Joe wasn’t busy working for Utica’s Department of Public Works, he could be found fishing with his friends and family. He was known for his sense of humor and having a love for people. Once Joe retired, he was able to spend more time with his family and friends. An avid outdoorsmen, he rode his motorcycle, fished on his boat, and enjoyed hunting with the people he loved. In the winter months, Joe was an accomplished bowler.
Joe is survived by three sons, Daryl James Lonero and his wife, Kathy Lonero, Frankie Lonero, and Christopher Lonero; daughter, Anita Segarra; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Lonero Jr.; three sisters, Antoinette Gillette, Helen Lonero Milograno, and Rita Lonero Gigliotti. Joe will be sadly missed, but, can now rest in peace and fish with his best friend, Jerry Hoyle and his beloved son, Joseph Jr.
There will be a celebration of life on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica, with a prayer service at the end of calling hours.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the nursing staff at Wynn Hospital, especially those on the fifth floor, for their care and compassion during Joe’s final days.
