Joseph A. Longo, born on November 14th, 1943, in Utica, NY, was the cherished son of Anthony (Darby) Longo and Catherine (Catty) Cotrupe Longo. Educated in Utica Schools, he gained recognition as a skilled chef in several local restaurants before retiring from the NY State Department of Corrections after many years of dedicated service.
In 1968, he joined hands in matrimony with the former Susan Allbright, and together, they built a life in Deerfield, NY, until her passing in 2001. Left to grieve are his beloved daughter, Stacey Longo-Gilberti; his sister, Carol (Yaya) Longo; and his adored grandchildren, Joseph Longo III, Catherine Odell (John Odell), Gianna Longo (Shawn Lynch), Jared Longo, Anthony, and AJ Gilberti; his great-grandchildren, Johnny and Olivia Odell, Domenica Longo (Krista Pristera), and Sofia Lynch, also mourn his loss. He is preceded in death by his two sons, Joseph and Michael Longo; his daughter-in-law, Kirstin Palumbo-Longo; and son-in-law, Christopher Gilberti.
Joe peacefully departed on December 19th at The Grand Utica, where he resided for the past several months, receiving extraordinary compassion and care from the staff. The Longo Family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Joe's long-time friends who stood by him, Cetto Mazza, Butch Lacatena, and Jim Ruggiero. Special thanks are extended to his Forrest Street neighbors, Ivan and Julia Zhucheny, John and Sandy Seiselmyer, Tony and Brigette Benincasa, and numerous friends.
In accordance with Joseph's wishes, his family honored him privately, laying him to rest beside his beloved wife at Crown Hill Memorial Park.
