Joseph Elliot Mohr

Joseph Elliot Mohr, 46, passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital.

Joey was born in New Hartford on September 5, 1977, a son of John and Carmelita (Mutolo) Mohr. He was raised in East Utica and resided at the Upstate Caring Partners, where he enjoyed his life and loved his second family at the Siegel house in Utica. He was employed with the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired for over 20 years. He received employee of the month several times over the years and loved his job. He also volunteered for The Center for Missing and Exploited Children, raising awareness by packing and sending mailings of missing children. He loved recreational times and outings such as camping trips, playing bingo at the casino and other activities around the area. He looked forward to meal times, and especially loved his macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and Diet Coke. He was very fond of being in the company of animals, especially dogs and his late pet rabbit. Any room he entered he brought sunshine, love and always a bit of comedy. Joey always had an affectionate side and loved to flirt by blowing kisses and winking at girls. A very loving soul, Joey had many friends over the years and was especially close with staff and housemates, especially Barbara, who has unfortunately passed.

Joey loved his family very much and had close relationships with them. He loved his mother Carmelita very much; the relationship they had was one of a kind. He also very much loved his brother John and sister Sherry. They all had a very close relationship through the years filled with happiness and joy. He and his Grandmother Marie and Grandfather Michael had a special relationship and a very close bond going up to their camp at Hinckley Lake, taking walks, rides in the car or enjoying each others company. He had a nickname for most people he loved including his mother Carmelita, who he called “Peekyho”, his sister Sherry, who he nicknamed “Monkeybar”, and his aunt Annette, who he liked to call “Aunt Fossil”.

Joey is survived by his mother, Carmelita; his sister, Sherry Mohr; his brother, John Mohr; his nieces and nephew, Latisha Gary, Joshua Gary and Janaiya Nelson; also aunts and uncles, Annette and Joseph Gerace and Frank and Donna Mutolo; and one cousin, Frankie Mutolo and his wife, Amy. He was predeceased by his father, John Mohr; and his grandparents, Marie and Michael Mutolo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 13, at 10 am at Historic Old St. John’s Church. The family will receive visitors at the church from 9 to 10 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
