Josephine Cangello Obituary

Josephine Marie (Schiavone) Cangello, 92, passed away, with the love of her family in her heart, Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Lutheran Home, in Clinton.

Josephine was born in Utica on Mohawk St, November 5, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Guy George and Anna Marie (Grippe) Schiavone. She was educated locally, where she attended grade school at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel and graduated TR Proctor High School. Josephine married Angelo Cangello in 1949, a union which produced three children, Michael, Maria, and Marc.

Josephine was employed for over 42 years at General Electric, in their payroll and accounting departments, until her retirement in 1988. She was a former member of the Utica Maennerchor Ladies Auxiliary, where she enjoyed singing in their choir, and she was a member of the Clark Mills Senior Citizens Center.

A wonderful cook and hostess, “Josephine’s kitchen was always open.” She lived to entertain, and her home was always filled with family and friends.

She will be forever missed by her beloved family, son, Michael and Vicki Cangello, of New York Mills; daughter, Maria and Jim Hartt, of Winston Salem, NC; and son, Marc Cangello, of Oriskany; daughter-in-law, Diane Cangello; her grandchildren, Tracy and Rob Stuber, Shane Maxson (Kelly Maxson), Angelo Cangello (Renee Wells), Michele and Mike Coonce, Dana Cangello (Clint Watkins), Lorrie Maxson (Ryan Perry), Jessica Maxson, and Ashley Cangello; her great grandchildren, Tony and Rachel Cangello, Jordyn and Keenan Caporilli, Joseph, Justin, and Jenna Cangello, Joshua Coonce, Shawn Maxson, Kaleigh Maxson, Christian Cangello, Hallie Watkins, and Chelsea Perry; her great great grandchildren, Addilynn Caporilli, Noah Caporilli, and Finley Cangello, who was born on the day of Josephine’s passing. She leaves many relatives including her special cousin, Margaret Baker; and many special friends, including Mary Ritz.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 24, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/ Blessed Sacrament Parish, in Utica, with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation for relatives and friends will be on Tuesday, November 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.

We wish to acknowledge the staff of the Lutheran Home, Katherine Lutheran Wing and the Saul Unit, for all their compassion and care shown to our mom. A special thank you to Jaime Reigler, our mom’s case worker, for always handling all our questions and concerns in a very timely, professional, and caring manner.
