Leonard Amodio Sr. Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Leonard M. Amodio, Sr., 88, announce his passing on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Rome Memorial Hospital.

Leonard was born in Utica, January 13, 1937, a son of the late Angelo and Celestine (Scotellaro) Amodio. He was educated in local schools and a graduate of TR Proctor High School. Leonard served our country in the US Marine Corp in the late 1950’s. He was very proud of his service and was a member of the Marine Corp League, Chapter 999, in Camden. He was a loyal Marine right to the end.

Leonard was a truck driver and Teamster, working for several trucking companies for over forty years.

He was joined in marriage to the former Constance Ann Perry on September 13, 1958 and together they raised their four children. She passed away at a young age on August 24, 1987. He was fortunate to marry a second time to the former Georgina Ridgeo on May 27, 1998, and they have shared thirty-six loving years.

Leonard had a love of aviation and the Marine Corp., aside from the family it was the focus of his life and he was very proud of the fact his son and grandsons followed in his footsteps in the Marine Corp.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Georgina; five children, Celeste and Richard Maneen, Leonard Jr.  and Debbi Amodio, Guylene O’Connor, Cynthia and Steve Jones, and James Amodio; two stepsons, Frederic Dodge and Mark Dodge; seven grandchildren, Julia and William Klein, Leonard Amodio III (Trey), Richard Peter Maneen, Andrew Maneen, Mitchell Jones and his wife, Victoria, Garret Jones and his wife Lily, and Tiffany Dodge; great grandchildren, Abel, Liam, Delilah, and Dawson Jones, Violet, Felicity and Celine Klein, and Hazel Jones;  brother and sister-in-law,  John P. Amodio and Debbie Jones, two sisters-in-law, Marie Amodio and Sister James Peter Ridgeo O.S.F.; brother-in-law, James Ross Ridgeo and his partner, Wade VanBrocklin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Amodio; sister, Martha Nelson;  and nephew, John Joseph Amodio.

His Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025. at 11 a,m,. at St. Peter’s Church, in Rome, NY. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of 2 East at Rome Memorial Hospital for the loving care shown to Leonard and his family during this difficult time.
