Lillian "Lil"" Bossone Obituary

Mrs. Lillian “Lil” (Mondi) Bossone, 94, passed away peacefully, with her devoted family by her side, Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the St. Luke’s Campus of MVHS.

Lillian was born in Utica, January 24, 1929, a daughter of the late Dominick and Celesta “Esther” (Primarolo) Mondi. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. At one time, Lillian was employed as a secretary at Rumsey’s Distributors in Utica.

On September 30, 1950, Lillian was joined in marriage to Carmen A. Bossone, Sr., with whom she shared over fifty-five loving years of marriage, until his passing on December 30, 2005. Throughout their journey together, “Carm and Lil” created a loving family and revolved their lives around making memories and carrying on traditions with their children and grandchildren.

Grandma Lil, as she was affectionately known, enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by her family. She was an exceptional cook, who religiously prepared meals for her family, every Thursday and Sunday, while creating a welcoming environment that extended family and friends took as an opportunity to spend time together. Her home was always open to everyone. Lil was also well known for her highly requested cookies and meatballs! She truly enjoyed cooking and baking with her family, especially around the holidays. She loved watching sports and was known to always be in the stands cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. Lil enjoyed playing Mahjong, going to the casino, watching Lifetime movies, Price is Right, and her soap operas. She loved knitting, crocheting, and needle point, creating treasures that all her loved ones have to cherish. Lillian had a special saying for every situation and her “Lil-ism’s”, such as “Whatever”; “ This too shall pass”; “Same shit, different day”; “ You do the best you can with what you got”;  and “Everyone has to take care of their own soul”; will be a legacy her family will never forget. She overcame many challenges throughout her life, especially over the last year, with a tremendous amount of grace and courage, never complaining and always putting the needs of others before her own. Her legacy of love, selflessness, and generosity will live on through her children, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched.

She is survived by her six children, Anthony and Mary Bossone (New Port Richey, Florida), Linda O’Connor and Wink Doolittle (Remsen), Laurie Bossone, Carmen Jr. and Gina Bossone, (Utica) Celeste Witchley and Mike Thomas (New Hartford), and Carleen and Michael Jany (Chicago); grandchildren, John and Dixa O’Connor, Anthony Jr. and Amy Bossone, David and Dana Bossone, Carmen III and Briana Bossone, Danielle Witchley, Samantha Bossone and Scott Shanley, Jessica Witchley and Zachary Wessinger, Donald Witchley III, Michael Jany, and Gianna Jany; great grandchildren, Anthony III, Mason, and Marin Bossone, David Jr. and Ella Bossone, and Luca O’Connor; one sister, Juliette Morelle; two brothers, Dr. Frank Mondi and Anthony Mondi; and also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Lisa Marie Bossone, who was always close to her heart; her sons-in-law, Donald T. Witchley, Jr. and John O'Connor Sr.; her in-laws, Gilbert Morelle, Clorinda Mondi, Denise Mondi, Amiello “Moe” and Fannie Bossone, Ralph and Marie Bossone, Salvatore and Annie Bossone and a great niece Lauren Morelle.

The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Max for the care and compassion shown to Lil and for never giving up on her.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Interment will be in St. Agnes cemetery.
