Lois Stamboly Obituary

Mrs. Lois M. (Sugarman) Stamboly, 86, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Lois was born in Utica on February 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Harry and Lillian (Ellis) Sugarman. She was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On July 2, 1949 Lois was joined in marriage for 66 years to Basil Stamboly and together they owned and operated the Champlin Market grocery store with their children for 40 years on Highland Avenue in Utica, before retiring in 1988. Lois was a member of the Red Hat Society, The Landmarks Society of Greater Utica and MWPAI. She loved spending winters in Naples, Florida and summers at Cedar Lake where she enjoyed the company of many special friends. She is survived by her husband Basil, her three children, Norman and Rebecca Stamboly, Christine Stamboly and Guy Yacobelli III, Michael Stamboly and Todd Henry. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Bryan Stamboly and Sara and John Warner and great grandchild Joslyn Warner. Visits from her grandchildren and great grandchild always brought much joy to her life. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, brother in laws, sister in laws and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters and a brother in law, Osna and Max Trapanick and Sandy Sugarman. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Private entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. There are no calling hours. The family will receive visitors following the mass. The family would like to express gratitude to the Sauquoit Medical Group and the very special caretakers and medical specialists who sincerely cared for Lois over the past several years. They never failed to brighten her day and provide support to her family. Donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, New Hartford NY.
