Mr. Louis A. "Butch" Campola Jr., 71, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, February 6, 2016. Louie was born in Utica on March 25, 1944, a son of Louis A. He was active in the US Army Reserve for twenty years and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Louis was joined in marriage to the former Geraldine "Gerry" Surace on March 20, 1970. They shared over forty-five loving years together. Louie worked construction with his brothers-in-law, at Proctor Construction Co. Inc., for many years. He then was employed as a quality control inspector at Lucas Aerospace for over fifteen years. During his retired years, he operated his own company GMCS which was a general maintenance company. Louie loved going to Turning Stone, but his favorite pastime was spending time outdoors on his Four Wheeler and playing with his great grandchildren. They will truly miss their "Poppy". He is survived by his beloved wife, Gerry; his mother, Josephine Campola; his daughter, Nadine "Dena" Campola; grandchildren, Toni Fornino and her fiancé, Andrew McLean, of Utica, Victoria Fornino and her fiancé, James Hotaling, of BelAire, MD, John Fornino and Alicia Filipkowski, of Westmorland; great grandchildren, Jaxson and Mason Mclean and Westynn Fornino; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Frances and John Doti, of Utica, Carol Miklich, of Oriskany, and Susan and Kurt Freeman, of Utica; sister-in-law, Betty Campola, of Utica; many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Louis was predeceased by his father, Louis; brother, William Campola; grandson, Gaetano "Guy" Fornino; and brother-in-law, Bob Miklich. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Church. There are no calling hours but the family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass. Private interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to Dr. Razia and her staff as well the 6th floor staff at St. Luke's Hospital and his private caregivers, Mark, Kathy, and Brooke, as well as the caregivers of Hospice and Palliative Care, for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
