Louis Fanoun Obituary

Mr. Louis Gabriel Fanoun, age 60, of Utica, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2015 after an arduous battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Born on November 13, 1954, a son of the late John and Emelda (Giangi) Fanoun, Louis was a graduate of TR Proctor High School. Louis was a dedicated employee of Madeline Distributors prior to beginning his profession as a general contractor. He enjoyed each and every day of his 40 plus year career as a craftsman, which was evident in his beautiful and meticulous work. Louis was a strong and independent hard worker; and an unfailing provider to his family. His greatest joys in life were spending time with his two daughters and his business. In his younger days, Louis was an avid athlete, baseball player and basketball player. His fondest memories were of the good times spent with his brothers at his father's neighborhood grocery store, Fanoun's Market; and the moments spent with his daughters, the apples of his eye. Louis embraced his Arabic culture and cuisine, and his favorite pastimes were playing backgammon, fishing, cooking, and traveling to Las Vegas, Lake George, and NYC to visit his daughters. He was always there for his family, just a phone call away, and would do anything possible to help. Louis was a good man, a great friend, and a proud father, always in your corner. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Linda and Amanda Fanoun, of NYC; brothers, Michael and Fred Fanoun; sister, Diane Fanoun; best friend and companion, Peggy Manley; and many loving aunts and uncles in the Giangi family. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church, Utica. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, 5-7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica. His daughters would like to express special thanks to the caring staff at Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and Slocum Dickson in Utica. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Louis' memory to the International Cancer Advocacy Network (ICAN) for the Louis Fanoun Hodgkin's Lymphoma Program. Envelopes will be available.
