Luz M. Sanchez

Mrs. Luz Magalena Sanchez, 53, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. She was a resident of the The Pines at Utica. Luz was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, a daughter of Mario and Sinovia (Raez) Sanchez. She was raised in PR until she was fourteen before moving here where she attended local schools. She was married in 1996 to Juan Perez. Luz was a Certified Nurses Assistant and worked for several years at the St. Joseph Nursing Home. She is survived by her husband, Juan; her children, Maria Galarza, Cynthia Esmurria, and Nelson Esmurria, all of Utica; grandchildren, Yolanda, Francisco, and Luz Maria Esmurria, Jassira Acevedo, Daniel and Miguel Carrasco, Nelson, Fabian, Zaviar and Juan Esmurria; one great granddaughter, Alison; a sister, Madeline Raez; and brothers, Jose Raez and Francisco Esmurria. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Ruger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica. Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
