Marie Albano Obituary

Marie Jean Albano, 78, passed away, with her best friend Dona of 62 years, holding her hand until the very end, along with other family members, on Saturday, July 31, 2021, in St. Luke’s Home, after a short illness.

Born in Utica, September 17, 1942, Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia “Jean” (Scampone) Albano, both of whom she missed dearly. She was educated locally and attended TR Proctor High School; and was proud to be a Proctor alumni. She continued her education at Utica Beauty School and worked at Elite Beauty Salon, for several years. Later, Marie became the owner and operator of Carene Beauty Shop, on Genesee St., for many years. She also started her own cleaning services, used by many, and there was a loving bond between her and her clients. Most recently, Marie worked at the UFCW Local One, until her retirement in 2017.

Marie loved to dance and always found a place to enjoy herself; she even danced on the beach during Covid. She was a world traveler, and especially loved her many cruises, but her all time favorite place was Aruba. Marie was a sun goddess, who loved to sit for hours in the sun. Her love for car racing, going to Utica Rome Speedway, and especially, racer Jeff Gordon, were her favorite pastimes. Marie followed many local bands, especially Soul Injection, Target and Classified, and tried to attend as many of their concerts as possible. Marie truly loved people, so enjoyed family holidays and surrounded herself with family and her many special friends.

Marie is survived by her aunt, Rose Sangiacomo and family; her best friend, Dona Ventura and her family, who referred to Marie as Nonnie Re Re (started by Marie’s surrogate grandson, Joshua Noga); Goddaughter, Marie Graziano; and also many beloved cousins in the Albano and Scampone families, including Marie and John Brigantino and family; and also her mother’s Goddaughter, Maryann Bottini and family. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Joe and Jean; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins including special cousin, Joe Damiano; and many very very dear friends.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. She will be laid to rest with her parents in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Marie’s family wish to acknowledge all the love and care given by her many friends, especially Maria Kozak, Carol Jean Larkin, Joanie Miller, Angie Potaczala and Patty Stanton; and also many thanks to the St. Luke’s ICU, 3rd floor nurse, Kelly and the St. Luke’s Home, for the special care and dignity provided to Marie during her final days.
