Mrs. Marie F. (Donohue) Ambruso, 95, passed away peacefully, with loved ones by her side. on June 17, 2026.
Marie was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, January 23, 1931, a daughter of the late Francis Donohue and Marie Muise. She was educated and a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. Prior to starting a family, Marie worked for the General Electric Company, in Lynn Massachusetts and Utica, New York. On November 20, 1955, Marie was joined in marriage to Dominick Richard Ambruso, with whom she shared over 58 loving years of marriage until Dominick’s passing on June 2, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marie’s calling gravitated towards people and causes that she could help with, as this fulfilled her life; providing friendship, support, charity, and assistance to others. She was a devoutly faithful Catholic. A caring mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially on trips back home to Massachusetts. Marie equally found solace calling upon her Utica area family and friends. She was very fond of her hometown and always looked forward to extended visits for holidays, special celebrations and during the summer months. Marie was all things “Boston” when it came to sports. She followed the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and New England Patriots, and would watch every televised game. She passed this passion on to her sons. Marie also loved animals. In more recent years, she adopted a neighborhood cat that visited her doorstep daily. She was always ready for her arrival to provide a much-needed meal. Seeing that this special cat had an endearing nature and was a true survivor, living out in the harsh elements, she gave her the name, “Lucky”.
Marie is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Georgene Ambruso, and Michael Ambruso; grandchildren, Amara Ambruso, and Ryan and Alec Ambruso; grand pup, Loki, who she adored; sister, Eleanor Gill; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol Ambrose, and Michael and Frances Ambrose; and also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dominick Ambruso; brother, Frank Donohue Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald Ambrose, Jane Donohue, Rocco and Gloria Ambruso, Joseph and Celia Ambrose, Michael and Theresa LaPaglia, Elliot and Anne Brown, and Thomas Gill; along with special neighbors, Stella and Howard Dodge and family; and her very dear friend, Alice Schneider.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of mass. Marie will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Dominick, in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
