Mrs. Martha (Gigante) Brindisi, 92, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2016, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Martha was born in Utica on June 3, 1923, a daughter of the late Peter and Julia (Agor) Gigante. She was educated in local schools, graduated from Utica Free Academy, and in later years, Martha attended Utica College. On January 8, 1955, Martha was joined in marriage to Anthony Peter Brindisi. They shared thirty-six loving years together until his passing June 18, 1991. Beginning in the months after the Pearl Harbor attack, Martha worked as a court reporter in the JAG Department at Hickam Air Force Base for nearly twenty years. She returned to Utica in the early fifties, taking a court reporter position in the JAG Department at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, where she retired in the sixties to raise her family. A very active member of the St. Peter's School and Parish, Martha was a past president of the Mother's Guild and taught religion for many years. Martha was a person who enjoyed knitting and especially loved spending time with her family and her canine companion "Jet". They all shared many happy times together, especially at the camp at White Lake. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Pelenatete (Pio) Brindisi of Deerfield; her daughter, Jill (Brindisi) Jennings of Lincolndale, NY; her grandchildren, Julie and her husband Timothy Mierek, Danny Michael Brindisi, and twins Steven Thomas Jennings and Sean Anthony Jennings; two great grandchildren, Tyler and Elizabeth Mierek; one sister, Agnes Lubey; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two daughters, Janice and Joyce Brindisi; brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Helen Gigante; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Walter Samon and brother in law, Clifford Lubey. Martha's family honored her in a private ceremony and she will be laid to rest with her husband in Calvary Mausoleum.
