Martin John Panetta, 93, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica.
Marty was born in Utica, June 24, 1931, a son of the late Dominick M. and Stella M. (Jerominek) Panetta. He was educated in Utica schools, graduating from UFA in 1951, and continuing his education at MVCC, where he received his Associates Degree in Business.
Mr. Panetta proudly served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, before being honorably discharged. On May 28, 1955, Martin was wed to the former Martha Remington. The couple enjoyed over 68 loving years of marriage until Martha passed away on June 23, 2023.
Until his retirement, Marty, along with his brother, Robert, owned and operated the family business, Panetta’s Fashion Furniture, which was established by their father, Dominick, and where you were always greeted at the door with a smile and welcomed into their beautiful showroom.
An avid NY Yankees fan, Marty always enjoyed watching the games.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, who always had a smile, Marty is survived by his children, Richard Panetta and Raymond Alessandrini, and Jacqueline and John Colon; daughter-in-law, Gail Panetta; her daughter Susan’s partner, Connie Everetts; grandchildren, Nicole Panetta, Colin Panetta and Jenn Harr, and Brittany and Jessica Panetta; step-granddaughter, Lisa Wilcox; great grandchildren, Madison, Isaac, Adrian, Riley, Christopher, Tommy, and Derek; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sina Panetta; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Patricia Remington; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Marty was predeceased by his beloved wife, Martha; son, Thomas; daughter, Susan; and brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Marie Panetta.
His Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors will be held Thursday, January 9, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass. Private interment will be in Frankfort Center Cemetery.
