It is with great sadness that we must announce the loss of our beloved wife, daughter, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Gabrielle (Barres) Prestigiacomo, “Gabie,” who
passed away with her loving family by her side, on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Strong
Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Utica on June 28, 1955, Gabie was a daughter of the late Carmen J. and Cynthia
(Rich) Barres. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of St. Francis DeSales
High School. On September 17, 1977, Gabie was joined in marriage to Frank J. Prestigiacomo.
Gabie and Frank enjoyed a very loving marriage of over forty-eight years, living and raising their
large family in Utica and Whitesboro. Gabie was a medical transcriptionist for over thirty years
at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital.
A very devout Catholic, Gabie said her rosary multiple times a day and loved going on
religious retreats and visiting shrines around the country. She attended the Perpetual
Adoration group at St. Joseph–St. Patrick’s Church weekly for many years. She was a
devoted caretaker who always put the needs of others before her own, even in her final
days. Spending time with her extensive family, especially her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, was her ultimate joy in life. She loved spending the winters with family in
Lake Worth, FL, and time at “camp” on Oneida Lake, where she enjoyed every summer
since she was a child. The most beloved of her family, she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Frank; three children, Cynthia and Francis Ollerenshaw,
Dana Prestigiacomo, and Frank Prestigiacomo II; her mother, Cynthia (Rich) Barres;
grandchildren, Francis Ollerenshaw and Sandra Pineda, Isabella Ollerenshaw, Julia
Ollerenshaw and Sean Bonney, Robert Ollerenshaw, Olivia Sprague, Matthew Sprague, and
Aleigha Smith; and four great-grandchildren, David, Giada, Avianna, and Connor.
She is also survived by her siblings, Mark Barres, Francis Barres, Lisa and Thomas Giglio, and
Anthony and Andrea Barres; aunts and uncles, Dorothy Rich, Mary and Bill Wilsey, and Liz and Bob Wendler;
as well as in-laws, Lisa Fillipelli, Constantino and Angela Prestigiacomo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, Carmen Barres, and her brother, Carmen Barres Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, on Thursday, January 8, 2026,
at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, at 12:00 Noon. The family will greet visitors following mass.
Private interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery.
