Mr. Michael A. Guarno, 86, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the Charles T. Sitrin Healthcare Center, New Hartford.
Michael was born in Utica, June 27, 1935, a son of the late Michael and Antoinette (Scalise) Guarno. He was raised and educated in local schools, and graduated from Whitesboro High School. Upon graduation, Mike joined the US Air Force and served his country from 1953-1957. After 13 loving years together, on September 15, 1979, Michael was joined in marriage to Bonnie Light. They shared a loving union of 50 years, until his beloved Bonnie passed away in 2019. Michael was a family man who always enjoyed cooking and hosting the holidays. Bonnie and Mike enjoyed their camp at Hinkley Lake and always looked forward to nightly backgammon matches. For many years the couple owned and operated the Kozy Kitchen on South St. Mike liked to work with his hands and could play almost any instrument, especially the piano. Mike was an avid card player and always a big supporter of the New York Jets and New York Yankees.
He is survived by his children, Anthony Carcone, Russell and Angel Guarno, Philip and Sheila Carcone, Philip Guarno, and Tanya and Michael Cordo; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Debra and David Chapple, and Bob Robertson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Michael was predeceased by his son, Michael Guarno; son-in-law, Dennis Gauthier; and fourteen brothers and sisters.
Michael’s family honored him privately and he will be laid to rest with his beloved Bonnie at Forest Hill Cemetery, in Utica.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt gratitude to the Hickory Unit and Rehab Unit at Charles T. Sitrin Healthcare Center.
